But this is one bad ass poster that has me drooling for this trailer to come out. I’ve never been more excited to go see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol for this damn trailer, even though that movie looks good too. You can bet your ass I’ll have it up when it’s released.

You have the Bourne series with Matt Damon trying to figure out who the fuck he is throughout a saga¹ trilogy. You have James Bond. Need I say more? The Good Shepherd. One of the slowest movies I’ve ever seen. Spy Kids? Maybe the new one with Jessica Alba. And then you have The Debt. A film that takes an interesting spin (for me, personally) on the ‘spy world’ by going through a series of flashbacks and storytelling to retell a historic mission for Rachel (Helen Mirren/Jessica Chastain), David (Ciarán Hinds/Sam Worthington), and Stefan (Tom Wilkinson/Marton Csokas). Even through the ‘slow’ moments, as my head was slowly starting to lower… BAM! Something crazy happens to gets me right back in.

I went into The Debt without watching the trailer. I was so confused for the first 15 minutes that it wasn’t until the sexy Sarah (Robi Aboulafia) explains a story from her book and Rachel sends us into a flashback. However, it was until the flashbacks stopped for while where I figured out I was watching a slow paced spy movie. That’s the part you don’t get from the trailer.

This is one of those movies where I sat there trying to figure out what’s going to happen next. And the flashback scenes were phenomenal. The chemistry between young Rachel and young David were amazing. You could really feel their attraction for one another. But with another dude there, young Stefan, things get interesting in this love triangle. Shit, if I was there… there would be a problem too. There was something about Jessica Chastain and her red hair, lips, body… that kept everyone wanting more.

Aside from sexual drama getting in the way, you have Vogel (Jesper Christensen) who they babysit for a good portion of this movie. This is the slower part of the movie but it’s also some of the best parts of the movie. When Vogel is getting into each of these characters heads are fuckin’ crazy and to see them impact them so much goes to show how insane he really is. You have to applaud him and expect his name to be heard during the Oscars.

I don’t really want to say much else because whether you go in blind or watch the trailer this movie filled with multiple twists and turns. It started off by me saying “HOLY SHIT!” out loud in the theater and ended with me wanting more because the ending felt rushed. If you like spy movies, you will definitely enjoy this but I can’t guarantee satisfaction. A compelling story helps The Debt stand out from the rest of the movies this year.

Wait, hold the phone. You mean there’s a movie with Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, and Rashida Jones that doesn’t involve Judd Apatow or Seth Rogen? Holy shit! This movie can’t be good without them, can it? A bunch of supporting actors and actresses all headlining their own film couldn’t possibly break out, right? Well along with the stunning Zooey Deschanel and independent movie star Emily Mortimer, newcomer director Jesse Peretz brings us Our Idiot Brother. Which surprisingly, isn’t as idiotic as the title.

Our Idiot Brother starts off with Ned (Rudd) being tricked into selling weed to a cop. This scene alone sets up the entire movie and lets us know exactly how stupid this guy actually is. Then we’re blasted with 4 other sub plots and I initially thought this was going to be a major problem. However, it didn’t take long for the movie to show us how each story was going to play out with Ned. We have his ex-girlfriend Janet (Kathryn Hahn) and new boyfriend Billy (T.J. Miller) which was bombarded with “dude” and “man” as well as their fight for Willie Nelson, Ned’s dog. Then you have Ned’s married sister, lesbian sister, and journalist. Who’s who? I’ll let you figure that out on your own. Either way, they all had an interesting story and turn into a hypocritical bitch at one point or another. They do redeem themselves at the end though.

Now you can’t go into this movie thinking it’s a raunchy comedy like Horrible Bosses or 40-Year-Old Virgin because you will leave disappointed. This is an independent film, so it’s not necessarily mainstream and the humor is very different. But it didn’t matter because I was rollin’ in my seat, laughing my ass off many times and I’m not just trying to spell out internet acronyms there. Paul Rudd was perfectly casted and I’m really glad they didn’t go with someone like Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill to attract a younger audience. I’d really like to see more movies like this and I feel like we will get that with 50/50. For now.. Our Idiot Brother is one of the better movies of this month and a perfect way to wrap up the summer season.

Allow it. Bangers. Bare. Believe. Block. Bruv. Fam. Innit. Merked. Peak. Shiv. What the fuck did I just say? This is the slang used in London.. well according to the group of kids in Attack the Block. If you thought slang in America was like cracking Da Vinci Code then wait until you watch this. These fuckin’ kids were talkin’ all types of nonsense. But for some crazy ass reason, I was able to understand it without much of a problem. I wasn’t expecting such a heavy onslaught of slang mixed in with the dialogue but I got used to it quickly. It didn’t take long for the movie to take off and for me to be completely emerged in the film. With Cowboys & Aliens being a complete bust and Super 8 biting the bullet, could Attack the Block be the underdog that takes the crown for the best alien invasion movie of the year?

Like I’ve previously stated, it doesn’t take long for the film to introduce the us to the main characters of the film as well as the aliens they were be battling. For a movie that is less then 90 minutes long, jumping right in was the best thing to do. It also doesn’t take for all the English lingo to be thrown into the mix. You have to be a quick thinker to keep up otherwise getting lost in the language can be pretty easy and you won’t like this film from the start. Attack the Block follows a group of kids protecting their “block” which would be equivalent to an apartment building from aliens. The purpose of the alien attack isn’t revealed until much later but even then, it’s a far fetched theory, however, I’ll fuck with it.

What made this movie interesting was the laid back vibe I got. Just imagine a group of kids trying to fight off the neighborhood angry pitbull. Except this pitbull is all black has no eyes, a glowing mouth filled with teeth, and oh yeah… not from this planet. There’s a pyro maniac that puts the kid from Super 8 to shame and a chase scene that surpasses Transformers 3 (just kidding). The interactions between the main group and everyone they run into are all unbelievably entertaining and I don’t remember being bored at any point of the movie. No one character outshone another as everyone was casted perfectly. After the first act, you’ll be glued to your seat and your eyes won’t leave the screen.

I want this review to reveal as little as possible so I’ll just leave it at that. But it’s definitely a movie I honestly believe everyone should check out. It may not be for everyone but I certainly had a good time watching it. If Attack the Block wasn’t playing in select theaters, I would have seen it at least once more in theaters. I almost forgot, I was laughing for majority of this movie.. and I’m not sure if it was supposed to be funny or not, but it was great either way. Even after you watch the trailer, go into the film open minded.. you shouldn’t leave disappointed as you’ll be thinking about some of the crazy shit you did as a kid too. Attack the Block is an independent film that blows some of the major blockbusters out of the water this year.

FUCK YEAH! Kate Beckinsale is back for the fourth installment of the Underworld franchise and HOLY SHIT she looks fuckin’ amazing! I didn’t even bother with Underworld: Rise of the Lycans mostly because the story didn’t revolve around Beckinsale. But after watching this trailer, I’m definitely going to go back and watch it since it’s the prequel to the original. I also wouldn’t mind revisiting Rhona Mitra since I haven’t seen her in anything since Shooter.

But that opening scene with Selene (Beckinsale), and I’m not talkin’ about when she’s naked on the floor (but that was nice!), as she runs past the guards was fuckin’ bad ass. The action looks fun, the CGI looks great, and the ending has me looking forward to January 20, 2012. I might even have to check this out in 3D. Nothin’ like Kate Beckinsale comin’ at you in tight black leather!
